Greenough Road
Greenough Road is a dead-end street of about 900 feet in the western part of Billerica near the Carlisle line, between Gilman Road and Treble Cove Road, on the edge of the Queensland section. It leaves Gilman Road and curves northeast to a turnaround. It is the street of the subdivision Carlisle Woods: Raymond Engineering Service of 574 Boston Road drew the "Definitive Subdivision, Carlisle Woods, Greenough Road, Billerica, Mass." on January 17, 1996 for the subdivider Richard Annese of 11 Gilman Road, revised it on July 10, 1996 for the Planning Board's conditions, and recorded it on August 30, 1996 (Plan Book 192, Plan 17). It laid out eight house lots and a Lot A along the new road. The same day the owner conveyed lots 1 through 7 and Lot A, with the fee in Greenough Road, to Richard L. Annese and George T. Allen Jr., trustees of the Carlisle Woods Realty Trust. The town engineers inspected Carlisle Woods as a subdivision under construction from 1996 to 1999, and the assessors date the houses to 1997.
The plans and deeds do not say why the road was named Greenough. The Queensland plan of 1928 marked land at the Carlisle line next to that development "Greenough, formerly Linn Realty Service, Inc.," after Emery H. Greenough, but whether the Carlisle Woods land was part of it has not been traced.
At the fifth session of the annual spring town meeting, on May 17, 2005, the town voted under Article 25 "to accept the entire length of Greenough Road as a public way," the words "the entire length of" having been added to correct a "scribner's error" in the warrant. Gilman Road "from Greenough Road to James Road" was accepted in 2018.
